As if one 'broken' Atherton wasn't enough, Dan joined sister Rach on the treatment table following a crash during downhill practice in Andorra. He is recovering well despite breaking his scapular (shoulder) and hopes to be back on the bike in time for Fort William. Rach is recovering well following the operation on her damaged shoulder nerve. She is due to have her stitches out on the 28th May and is already itching to get back on the bike. A more in depth description of the operation can be read on Rachels blog – although this isn't for the faint hearted... www.animalcommencal.tv/rachel/blog US OPEN Gee headed on a whistle stop trip to the US to take on the formidable US open. The demanding track at the Diablo Freeride Park isn't one to be taken lightly as Gee found out in both early practice sessions – a couple of over-the-bar crashes on one of the many technical rock sections left Gee with a bit to work out for Sunday's finals. As if we hadn't already seen enough rain this season, yet another downpour arrived just hours before the final. With not one practice run on the wet course, things were going to be pretty hard going for all. Gee made a few errors on his run but his time of 2.32.72 was just two seconds off the win and good enough for 2nd place. WORLD CUP STANDINGS After an agonisingly close result in Andorra, Gee now sits in 4th position in the overall UCI Nissan World Cup standings. He is just 36 points behind second and 163 points behind leader Steve Peat however with the next World Cup event on home soil, Gee is looking to better his 2nd place at last year’s Fort William event to take him closer to the overall lead. With Dan missing Andorra he is now 200 points a drift off the lead in the 4X however he plans to be back on the bike for Fort William so expect him to be on the gas chasing down his first win of the year. www.athertonracing.co.uk
